Widow's Claim For Increase Pension For Children  


Claim of Margaret Housley,widow of John Housley  


State of Tennessee  County of Campbell  


On this, the 2nd day of February 1869, personally appeared before me, a Clerk of a court of record in and for the county and state aforesaid Margaret Housley, a resident of Campbell in the county of County (sic) and State of Tennessee aged 38 years, who being duly sworn, makes the following declaration, in order to obtain the Pension provided by the Act of Congress approved July 14 1862. That she is the widow of John Housley, who was a Compy. Sergeant in Company H commanded by Capt. Jacob Fretts in the 9th Regiment of Tennessee Cavalry in the War of 1861; that her maiden name was Margaret Taylor and that she was married to said John Housley on or about the 15th day of September 1856 at _______ in the County of Campbell and State of Tennessee by R.J. Green a Justice of the Peace, that she knows of record evidence of said marriage and (?) transmits certified copy of the same.  


SHE FURTHER DECLARES that said John Housley her husband, died out of the service of the United States as aforesaid at home in Campbell County in the State of Tennessee on or  about the 19th day of June 1868, of chronic diarrhea contracted while in the service of the U.S. and line of his duty. she also declares that she has remained a widow ever since the death of said John Housley and that she has not in any manner been engaged in, or aided or abetted, the rebellion in the United States; and she hereby appoints A.J. Johnson of the city of Knoxville Tennessee as her lawful Attorney, with power of substitution, and  authorizes him to present and prosecute this claim, and to receive her pension certificates.  


The following is the names, date of birth and place of residence of all of the children of her deceased husband who were under sixteen years of age at the time of his death: Sarah born Jan 13 1859, Annis born Dec 11th 1857, George born Aug 30 1860; James born May 9 1862; Joseph born Aug 5 1864, William born Sept 13 1866; John born September 18 1868.

ALSO PERSONALLY APPEARED before me, Stephen D. Ford and Thomas Townsend, residents of Campbell County, and State of Tennessee, to me well known as credible persons, who being duly sworn, declare that they were present and saw said Margaret Housley sign her name to the foregoing declaration, and that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said applicant, and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be, and know that said deceased recognized said applicant as his lawful wife, and that she was so recognized by the community in which they resided; and that they have no interest, direct or indirect, in the prosecution of this claim.
